Background

The WTA's enabling legislation, Chapter 1011 of the Statutes of 1999, set the criteria for the Community Advisory Committee's (CAC) membership. The legislation requires members to be appointed by their respective county boards of city councils. Members represent local jurisdictions where a water transit terminal exists or is proposed. Members also represent each special district providing public water transit services.

Mission Statement

As stated in the enabling legislation, the mission of the Community Advisory Committee is to "assist and advise the Board in carrying out its functions."

Roles of The CAC

    •  The CAC members will be an important link between the Water Transit Authority and their respective communities about the planning process and recommendations.
    •  The CAC will serve as a sounding board for ideas generated or solicited by the Water Transit Authority, and proposals presented by Water Transit Authority staff and consultants.
    •  The CAC will identify issues of local concern relating to transportation, land use, economic development and the environment.
    • The CAC will be used to keep the local agencies informed of the progress of the WTA's charge of developing the Implementation and Operations Plan for an expanded water transit system.
